Blower Motor Systems For GM Manufactured Trucks, SUV’s and Vans 1995-2012

I have separated the information that I have for the model years 1995 through 2012. This list covers the following model trucks, suv’s and vans that were made by General Motors but sold under the Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Isuzu, Oldsmobile and Saab brands.

The following list of vehicles use the same blower resistor and blower speed switch. Therefore the three part repair posts that I have linked to apply to all on the list. Not just the vehicle in the post title.

4 discussions on “Blower Motor Systems For GM Manufactured Trucks, SUV’s and Vans 1995-2012”

  1. The switch would be one of the more likely causes. There are links at the beginning of this article that all apply to you vehicle. The HVAC systems of C & K trucks of this era are all pretty much the same. Does not matter if it is a Pickup, Tahoe, Suburban or Yukon. I would recommend becoming familiar with the articles and then inspect and test at the blower switch.

  2. Hi Roger,

I look forward to the donation and am happy that you were able to repair your truck. I am not sure about where I might have stated anything about wire orientation, except for the manual systems with the seven wire connector. Those connectors are supplied with black and white wires. That does make the orientation of the two connectors critical.

  3. Sparky,

Your How-to articles and videos on the GM 2005 era Blower Control Module are outstanding for both diagnosis and repair – I am making a $50 contribution on your site. That is probably about 10% of what you saved me if I had taken the 05 Escalade to the Cadillac dealer. The shop foreman said $100 just to diagnose it. Unfortunately I did pay $100 dollars at a local auto store (O’reillys AP) for a Borg-Warner part RU1321, supposedly listing for $169.47.

I preferred to purchase it locally since I could examine it and return it easily if not correct. It also had the metal tangs extending inside the air box instead of the fragile looking green wafer card found on cheaper modules.

    PROBLEMS I HAD:
Installation required three splices to the wiring harness as you showed in your video, but I believe you had the same 5-wire connector on both the original and replacement. The difference was the original Carter Group part 52409643 had the three-terminal plug with terminals A=Red wire, B= Purple w/ white stripe, C= Black. The replacement plug had A= Black, B= Purple and C= Red (which was more orange than anything). The instructions said to match colors (?) but you said to make sure the orientation was matched to the original – BIG DILEMMA for me!

I went with the A/B/C option so that plug wire red (orange) spliced to black harness wire; and black plug wire spliced to the red harness wire…and when I stuck the fuse in, the blower started immediately with the switch off and stayed on the same speed no matter what, with nothing much coming out of the front vents. So I reversed A & C wires so that from the new: Orange to Red harness; Black to Black from the harness…it now runs like new!! The basic instructions included with the part did say to match colors, so that was the correct action regardless of the terminal designations.

A hearty thanks from San Antonio,

    Roger
